Words of Wisdom and Hope from our Students #BlackLivesMatter

Our mission is to empower an African vision, one that ensures equality, equity, and freedom. We believe that all humans should be able to walk free from fear of all forms of violence.
And our students do too.

We currently engage our students with at-home learning projects, and communicate with them through weekly phone calls. Last week, we asked: "What would you do if you could change the world?"

The responses were earnest, thoughtful, and hopeful. Here are a few that have inspired us:

If I Could Change The World…

I would change people's thoughts and bring humans unity. Humanity has its own language, color, gender, faith, and thinking from birth. Attitudes toward different issues have led us to conflict. Well, I think I'd like to see this removed and for unity to spread.

- Saron, Grade 1

I would change thoughts in humans so they can help others. Some who have accumulated money don’t want to help the poor, and they hate them instead. And some who own deep knowledge don’t want to share it.

- Yonathan, Grade 1

I would destroy racism because it’s a source of conflict and inequality.

- Alazar, Grade 3

I would change racism because if there is hate, there is no love, no collaboration, and no development.

- Sifen, Grade 4

The job of policemen is to secure peace, so I would improve their quality of work. I would also prevent gender-based violence and sexual harassment of women.

- Bezawit, Grade 6

I would avoid the challenges and impacts on women, from home to higher institutions, and support them in every aspect to participate in politics and economics in the country.

- Emebet, Grade 7

I would lift up all Africans living.

- Tigist, Grade 7

We are in solidarity with all those standing against institutional racism and the systemic oppression of Black people.
Black lives are valuable.

Black lives matter.
